Terms of Service

Introduction

These terms govern your use of Litani (litani.ai), a language learning platform operated by Litani (“we”, “us”). By using Litani, you agree to these terms.

Definitions

A few terms used throughout these terms:

“Litani”, “we”, “us”, “our” — refers to Litani, the company behind the service.
“You”, “your”, “user” — refers to the person using the service.
“Service” — refers to the Litani app, our website (litani.ai), and any related features.
“Content” — anything you create or upload via Litani, such as phrases, lists, and recordings.
“Subscription” — a paid plan that gives you access to additional features.

The Service

Litani is a language learning app that lets you capture real-life phrases via voice, create personalised flashcards, and practise with spaced repetition, conversations, and roleplay. We’re always working to improve the experience, so features may change over time.

Your Account

You need an account to use Litani. When you create one, you agree to the following:

You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. If someone accesses your account because your password was compromised, that’s on you.
You must provide accurate information when signing up.
Accounts are for individual use. One person, one account.

Eligibility

To use Litani, you need to meet a few basic requirements:

You must be at least 13 years old.
If you’re under 18, you need permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the service.
You must not be barred from using our services under any law that applies to you.

We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their information, please contact us at support@litani.ai and we’ll remove it.

Your Content

Everything you create in Litani — phrases, lists, voice recordings, practice history — belongs to you. We don’t claim ownership of any of it.

By using the service, you grant Litani a licence to store, process, and display your content as needed to provide the service. For example, we need to store your phrases to show them to you, and process your recordings to generate transcriptions.

We use third-party AI services (including OpenAI and Azure) to power translations, transcriptions, and audio generation. Your content is sent to these services for processing, but it is not used to train their AI models. For more detail on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use Litani for anything illegal
Attempt to access other users’ accounts or data
Reverse engineer, decompile, or scrape the service
Use bots, scrapers, or other automated tools to access the service
Upload content that is harmful, abusive, or violates the rights of others

We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these rules.

Service Availability

We do our best to keep Litani running smoothly, but we can’t guarantee uninterrupted access. A few things to know:

The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or events outside our control.
We don’t offer service-level agreements (SLAs) on the free plan.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. For material changes, we’ll give you reasonable notice.

Beta Features

From time to time we may release experimental or beta features so you can try them early. A few things to keep in mind:

Beta features are provided as-is and may be changed, removed, or behave unexpectedly.
If we ask for feedback on a beta feature, you agree to share your thoughts with us.
Beta features may have limited support compared to our stable features.

Subscriptions and Payments

Litani offers both free and paid plans. You can see what’s included on our pricing page.

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel.
You can cancel anytime from your billing settings. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of your current billing period.
Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you think you’re owed one, email us at support@litani.ai.

Promotional Codes and Credits

Sometimes we offer promotional codes, discounts, or credits. These come with a few rules:

Promotional codes and credits are subject to specific terms, such as expiry dates, eligibility requirements, or single-use limits.
We may modify or cancel promotional offers at any time.
Credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred or refunded.
Fraudulent use of promotional codes will result in account termination.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Here’s what happens when you do:

All your data is permanently removed — lists, phrases, practice history, audio recordings, everything.
If you have an active paid subscription, it will be cancelled immediately.
This cannot be undone. Once your account is deleted, there is no way to recover your data.

Intellectual Property

The Litani name, logo, visual design, and underlying code are owned by Litani. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute them without written permission.

Your content remains yours. We don’t claim any ownership over the phrases, recordings, or other material you create within the service.

Limitation of Liability

Litani is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep things running smoothly, but we can’t guarantee the service will be available 100% of the time or completely free of bugs.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Litani is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. This includes things like lost data, lost profits, or interruption to your learning schedule.

Our total liability to you for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you’ve paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. If you’re on the free plan, that amount is zero.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” with no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. In particular:

We don’t warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
We don’t warrant that AI-generated content — translations, transcriptions, suggestions — will always be accurate. Language is messy, and AI makes mistakes.
You use Litani at your own risk. For anything where accuracy really matters (legal documents, medical contexts, important communications), please verify translations through other sources.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Litani harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

Your use of the service
Your violation of these terms
Your content — for example, if it infringes someone’s rights
Your violation of any third-party rights

Third-Party Services

Litani relies on third-party services to work. For example, Clerk handles authentication, Stripe handles payments, and OpenAI powers some of our AI features.

We’re not responsible for outages, errors, or policy changes of third-party services.
Their use of your data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. If we do, we’ll tell you why unless we’re legally prevented from doing so.

You can stop using Litani at any time. No hard feelings.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we’ll let you know by email or through a notice in the app.

If you keep using Litani after the changes take effect, that counts as accepting the updated terms. If you disagree with a change, you should stop using the service.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Severability

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. The unenforceable part will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.

Entire Agreement

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and Litani regarding the service. They supersede any prior agreements or communications.

No Waiver

If we don’t enforce a right or provision in these terms, that doesn’t mean we’ve waived it. We can still enforce it later.

Force Majeure

We’re not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by events beyond our reasonable control. This includes things like natural disasters, war, terrorism, government action, internet outages, third-party service failures, and pandemics.

Assignment

You can’t transfer or assign your rights under these terms without our written consent. We may transfer or assign our rights and obligations to a successor — for example, if Litani is acquired.
